Seiter staff have implemented PBIS known as The Jaguar Way. Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is an approach for assisting schools adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral interventions in a way which enhances academic and social behavior outcomes for all students. There are six big ideas of PBIS.
Identify and Define Expectations
In October, students were introduced to our three expectations “we are safe, we are independent and we communicate.” These expectations were developed from parent and staff feedback. Seiter PBIS matrix.
Teach Expectations
Each week we are teaching different areas of the building and what expected behavior looks like in these areas using videos, lesson plans and social stories.
Monitor Expected Behavior
Staff were trained in active supervision “look around, walk around, talk around.” In addition, staff have been working to develop and use common language. Common language is listed on our school behavior matrix.
Acknowledge and Encourage Expected Behavior
Students have been earning Jag Cash for showing appropriate behavior. Students have opportunities to buy items or experiences in the school store.
Correct Behavior Errors
With input from the Seiter staff and parents, the School Leadership Team has created a continuum of consequences and criteria for determining major vs minor behaviors.
Seiter is now using SWIS (School-Wide Information System) to store data from incident reports. The School Leadership Team is able to pull data in real time to analyze trends.
